•Milan in a day•

Because we are crazy (and cheap) we took a 6:30 am flight from Paris to Milan.  The flight was with easyJet and cost $57 for all 5 of us. So yeah we didn't have a problem with the early wake up call for the price.

I have always wanted to see Milan, so we decided to have it be a pit stop on our way to our apartment in Rome.  We flew into Milan Malpensa airport and took a bus into downtown Milan which took 15-20 minutes and cost us 8 euro for all 5.

We got dropped at the central train station (where we would be departing by train the next day) and our hotel which was amazing was within 3 blocks of the train station.  The first thing I noticed about ItAly is that they truly have inexpensive city transportation.  It is actually the cheapest of all the countries we visited.  Literally being able to jump on a bus for 1 euro.  That is unheard of now days in the states and much of Europe.

We stayed at Bio City Hotel

We were pretty tired from being up so early so we checked in and put our bags down and went to get groceries (for breakfast and train ride the next day) and to eat some lunch.
While trying to find lunch and groceries we found the Holocaust memorial which is right near the Train station.  To kill some time because we literally went out during the Italian nap time (like It's totally a thing dudes) not much was open for us.  We let girls play at a fountain while Donny and I had our first Italian coffee.

Here is what we saw in our 24 hour adventure.

The Holocaust Memorial is very moving as it is actual train cars that were used to transport the Jewish people to the camps.

Holocaust Memorial in Milan - Platform 21
Between 1943 and 1945, platform 21 in Milan’s central station was the starting point for the convoys of hundreds of deportees, transported on cattle wagons, headed to concentration camps such as Auschwitz, Mauthausen and Bergen Belsen and the Italian collection points. A Holocaust Memorial is now situated in an area below the railway tracks, a place for reflection, study and research that is open to the community.

It was important to me to see what we could, and although it is a fashion wonderland, we were living out of backpacks and shopping was not an option due to lack of space.  So on to important things😩

Groceries:
Tip•
Look out you have to weigh your own produce in Europe.  They get annoyed with you if you get in line to pay with your produce not weighed.  There is a weighing station usually that prints up a sku for cashier.

An amazing place we found for all our goodies walking distance from train.

Sights:

Taking the city metro from downtown Milan near train station to The Cathedral is quick and cheap.  About 5 euro and 5 stops and you are set.

The must see is the  Duomo di Milano
gothic beautifulness.
Piazza del Duomo, 20122 Milano, Italy

Building of the Cathedral began in 1386 and was not completed until 1805.  Learning about these beautiful gothic buildings is a trip, the time it takes to complete these wonderful places really shows character and patience.

We ate dinner at a restaurant right across the street from our hotel which was amazing.  It was our first Italian meal, not just pizza.  After dinner we had our first Italian gelato and then we called it a night.  We had to be at the train station again in the morning at 5:30a.m. for our 5 HR ride to Rome.

Milan to me was the prefect intro to our journey in Italy.  I think it can be seen in a day or a weekend for those that want to carry on to other places in Italy.

More about Italy later.  We still have to circle back to Germany 🇩🇪, we have lots to share.  So much that the post is taking me much longer than I thought to write 😍stay tuned pals.
