The Good eating habits start from the beginning.. Baby food is better homemade..

Diets high in processed foods are causing bad behavior and learning difficulties in children, scientists have warned.
They claim junk food stops the brain working properly, leading to underachievement and a host of disorders.
Such foods not only lack the vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids that boost brain power but actually reduce the body's uptake of nutrients that improve concentration, a study has found.
Thousands of children given medication to combat attention deficit disorder might be better off simply improving their diet, according to the research.
The Oxford University study showed that giving children essential fats found in fish and nuts could improve their brain power.
Their ability to learn was increased and their behavior dramatically improved by supplementing their diets with such fats.

Good organic baby food companies:

Plum Organics Frozen Baby Food

Tastybaby Frozen Organic Foods

Earth's Best Organic Baby and Toddler Foods

If you can't do it, don't got the time...  Or  you are traveling and can't bring all your homemade stuff on the plane...  I mean Come on I would be telling a huge fib if I said I have never bought my girls food from the store..  SO here are some tips for buying commercially jarred foods, when you’re in a pinch:
  • Opt for those with the most calories, meaning more food per unit weight.
  • Look for jars of organic foods, without fillers.
  • Check that the expiration date on the jar has not passed.
  • Choose foods without chemicals and preservatives.
  • If feeding your baby a vegetarian diet, look for the Vegetarian Society’s “V” symbol on the jar or container, to be sure it is truly vegetarian.
More nutritious Homemade food is more nutritious than commercially prepared baby foods because it retains more of the nutrients, especially vitamin A and B. This is because the food is less processed. The jarring process necessitates the use of very high heat under pressure. Much more than you can generate when cooking at home. Unfortunately, many vitamins are destroyed by heat.

Some of the baby food on the market has additives and thickening agents including cornstarch, flour, chemically modified starches or “tapioca” (corn syrup, starch). This means your baby is getting less fruit and vegetables and more “filler”. Consumers are also getting less nutrition and value for your money.
No Chemicals or Preservatives
Your food will not have anything added, that you didn’t put there. You’re not trying to preserve shelf life or disguise any of the ingredients in your food. Preservatives include partially hydrogenated oils or trans-fats, which are linked to diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

So this is how I roll :

I usually make baby food once every 2 weeks.. I do 1 fruit and 1 vegetable..  I usually have enough for about 12-24 little containers of food when I am done, and they last up to 2 months in freezer and 3-6 in a deep freeze.  Daphne my 9 month old usually does not eat all of them in 2 weeks so there is left over which I like to kind of cycle through to keep her life spicy..  The books I suggested have some great recipes, but for my making food fast recipes check out my natural parenting page...  I use very few tools but boy oh boy are there a lot on the market these days.. With my first daughter Bryten I bought a really expensive food mill which worked great....  But boy did things change with Daphne my second when I realized I could just put the steamed veggies right in the blender with some steaming liquid and bam, all done.....  So much quicker.... ;)  Highly recommend over food mill.  But hey what ever floats your boat...  I promise you it is super simple and saves you a ton of money and you are using less resources, such as lids, and glass, and what not what have you!!  And how much cooler are you as a parent that you took the time to make fresh organic food for your sweetie pie...  Promise they will appreciate the hard work one day...!  Please message me for questions or tips...
Tread lightly!
