Homemade Beauty Treatments, break out the oatmeal and avacodos Girlfriends!!!!

For the record :  Companies that do test on animals
Aveeno (Johnson and Johnson)
Avon Products, Inc.
Bain de Soleil (Schering-Plough)
Biotherm (L'Oreal)
Calgon (Reckitt Benckiser)
Clean & Clear (Johnson & Johnson)
DOLCE & GABBANA (Procter & Gamble)
Dove (Unilever)
 Estée Lauder
Lancôme (L'Oreal)
Kiehl's (L'Oreal)
Mary Kay
Neutrogena (Johnson & Johnson)
Ponds (Unilever)

Now, if you are using lotions, shampoos, moisturizers whateves, from these companies you can be sure that the animals that these items are being tested on are enduring some if not all of  these awful things:

drip product into rabbits' eyes. There is a skin test where they put the product on animals' bare skins. They used to shave rabbits for this, but shaving a rabbit throws uncertainty into the experiment: was the irritation caused by the product or by shaving the rabbit? There are genetically engineered hairless animals they use now for this.  Great job ;)  Serious sarcasm there.

The government describes an animal experiment as a
‘procedure’ that is ‘likely to cause pain, suffering, distress
or lasting harm’. Many experiments cause extreme
suffering, often to the point of the animal’s death. Even
when they are not being experimented on, animals suffer
stress in laboratories where they are typically kept in
barren containers or kennels. Some will be kept in solitary
confinement, denied any company or comfort. After the
animals have been used in experiments they are usually
killed, although many will be used in ongoing experiments
over a period of months, or even years.

Not getting to far in depth and losing some of your attention I will cut to the chase.  On top of testing on animals, many beauty companies do not re use bottles.  Even the ones that do use recycled plastics are still contributing to some sort of negative pollution to the earth.  The way to be sure you are helping mother earth is by not buying these items!!!  They are so easy to make at home, chemical free with less waste.  Using natural homemade beauty treatments is guaranteeing that you are getting whole ingredients.  Not a dash of almond or a drop of lavender amongst chemicals and funky unpronounceable (is that a word?) if not I made one yipee ;) Additives..  Here is the deal, using raw whole ingredients is delivering to the skin maximum nutrients and wonderful benefits.  Not trying to make anyone feel bad for grabbing stuff from the store by any means, some products out there are great..  But the energy it takes to get into the car go to the store and buy these things,  is way more energy then spending a little time in your kitchen making it yourself!!  Another complaint I have is how expensive it is to live a natural life and use natural skin care products.  Price comparisons are insane.  To get a bottle of body wash from the grocery store that is all natural cruelty free you will spend at least $7.00 and that is insane compared to getting some sauve right quick for like $2.00..  I get it is more expensive, but making them at home is not,  I promise!  So give it a try!!!! :)

Back to the planet:

All those plastic bottles go somewhere,
Once creams and cosmetics expire, many people just toss them in the trash or empty them down the drain. However, when you do not properly dispose of your old cosmetics and creams, you run the risk of the jars and cases opening in the trash or contaminating water. Certain cosmetics contain ingredients that are hazardous to water, and open containers of cosmetics and creams at the landfill can eventually get into the water or sewage system and kill beneficial bacteria. When beneficial bacteria is killed, it compromises the entire ecosystem. Instead of taking a chance, dispose of your creams and cosmetics by properly removing the product and safely throwing it away.

Here is my amazing recipes for the whole body...  Some should be used daily, some weekly.  All vegan, all fresh and so effective...  So call some gal pals and rummage up these ingredients and some mason jars, have a spa day at home and let everyone take some home.  Or give as gifts, or guess what?  just use it yourself you will be glad you did and that is a FACT!!!

Face:

Almond gentle facial scrub

3 tbsp ground almonds
3 tbsp medium oatmeal
2 tbsp powdered rose petals
almond oil

Combine all ingredients together in a bowl, adding almond oil as you stir.  You want to make  it  paste like.  Makes about 10 treatments.. Store in glass air tight containers in fridge up to 1 week.  This is a great daily facial scrub!

Rosemary daily face cleanser tonic:
3tbs fresh rosemary
500ml hot water, from kettle
4 tsp 37.5 alcohol, or I use witch hazel, whatever you have handy!!!
put chopped rosemary in a small saucepan, add hot water and let simmer for 10 minutes.. Take off heat and cover and let steep for an hour.. Strain and funnel into mason jar, add the witch hazel or vodka when the water is cool.. Shake well and store in fridge for 3-4 days. Apply on cotton or wool pads after cleansing... Follow by moisturizer!!! I use this every weekend.. It just revamps and cleanses my skin for the week ahead!!! Tingles and smells super uplifting!!!

Smacker (lips) and mouth!!

Simple lip mask
1/2 banana
2 fresh chopped apricots, can use dried but re hydrate before using.
75 1 tsp dried sage
1/2 cup almond oil
vegan vegetable shortening I use this brand
http://www.amazon.com/Spectrum-Naturals-Shortening-Vegetable-Containers/dp/B001FA1DG4

Mash the banana and apricots and mix well with almond oil and dried sage, to make life easier I like to just put it all into a blender.  Push through a fine sieve or cheesecloth..  Melt vegetable shortening using an equal amount to the fruit mixture, in a heavy bottomed saucepan over gentle heat, gradually stir in the fruit oil mixture..  Stir thoroughly, pour into small jars and leave to set.  When set put lids on jars and store in the fridge and use within 2 weeks.  I like to coat my kisser with this every night after brushing my teethems.  My lips feel magical the next morning..

Peppermint and Raspberry mouthwash
5 sprigs peppermint leaves finely chopped
5 fresh raspberries, mashed to a pulp
3tbs witch hazel
still mineral water

Mix peppermint leave and raspberries with witch hazel in a bowl, I like to use a
mortar and pestle for this but if you don't have one no worries..  Once they are all stirred and mashed together I strain into a mason jar through some cheese cloth.  Mix equal parts mixture with still mineral water put lid on and shake well..  Use without swallowing, and use up to 2 days for freshness!!
