Okay Obama this is what makes me a little sad, you really didn't get health insurance figured out but instead you had the time to quietly sign into law a spending bill that restores the American horse-slaughter industry, just a few months after a government investigation said the ban on slaughtering was backfiring. I am wondering what the hell you are thinking Mr. I am just in shock and so annoyed that of all our countries problems, financially and mentally, and our health of course, this is the one you decided to dabble in. For those who don't know much here is a little history lesson!!
Nearly 105,000 horses were slaughtered for human food in 2006, all in two foreign-owned Texas
plants and a third foreign plant in Illinois, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA). Virtually all the meat was for export, the largest markets being France, Belgium,
Switzerland, Italy, Japan, and Mexico. The United States exported more than 17,000 metric tons
of horse meat valued at about $65 million in 2006. Most of these horses were raised for other
purposes, like riding. Dealers collected them for the plants from auctions, boarding facilities, and
elsewhere. Although U.S. horse slaughter had been rising since 2002—before a recent series of
court actions closed the three plants—it remained below levels of the 1980s, when more than
300,000 were processed annually in at least 16 U.S. plants.
Although U.S. slaughter has ended . Statistics reveal that 138,000 horses were transported to Canada and Mexico from the U.S. in 2010, just about the same number slaughtered in the country before the ban in 2007. We were just shipping the horses to Mexico and Canada and still getting the money!!! Oh U.S. you are so sneaky!
These are the conditions that the horses had to live in:
Often, terrified horses and ponies are crammed together and transported to slaughter in double-deck trucks designed for cattle and pigs. The truck ceilings are so low that the horses are not able to hold their heads in a normal, balanced position. Inappropriate floor surfaces lead to slips and falls, and sometimes even trampling. Some horses arrive at the slaughterhouse seriously injured or dead. Although transportation accidents have largely escaped public scrutiny, several tragic ones involving collapsed upper floors and overturned double-deckers have caused human fatalities as well as suffering and death for the horses.
What I think is that you bought it, you are responsible for it in every aspect of the animals life. You bought the damn horse, you rode it or raced it to it's state, so take care of it. That should be the law! If you are going to be a large animal owner you are responsible for it from the time you buy it till the time it dies, and there should be no slaughter available to use as a scape goat. Just another example of power and money hungry Americans buying things that they loose interest in or cant afford anymore and what do we do.. Toss it to the side because we just don't have the time... Stop breeding them, the breeders are making this problem.. So frustrating! I realize that I am a weirdo and probably would have been better off living in a simpler time. But it just drives me crazy that people don't pull their head out of their asses sometimes and just stop and take the time to think!! Use those brains, and figure out other ways to solve problems.. Although I don't feel that beautiful horses are problems!!!
So on top of being just awful, here is the things that you can look forward to if you decide to eat horse!!!
Gross!
horsemeat derived from American horses contains residues of phenylbutazone that are harmful to humans.
phenylbutazoneis commonly used in these ways for horses...
- Analgesia: It is used for pain relief from infections and musculoskeletal disorders, including sprains, overuse injuries, tendinitis, arthralgias, arthritis, and laminitis. Like other NSAIDs, it acts directly on musculoskeletal tissue to control inflammation, thereby reducing secondary inflammatory damage, alleviating pain, and restoring range of motion. It does not cure musculoskeletal ailments or work well on colic pain.
- Antipyresis: It is used for reduction of fevers. Its antipyretic qualities may mask other symptoms; therefore, it should not be administered for this purpose unless a veterinarian has concluded the horse would not be able to eat or drink without its use or that the fever might hinder the horse's recovery
- It was and still is used with aiding horses for horse racing...
aplastic anemia that is very dangerous to children

To me eating horse meat is completely unheard of, but for those of you that don't mind meat and are more of an adventurous person than I, I beg of you to please research before you embark... This is just a terrible thing we are doing here as a society. We are brighter than this, we can figure out a slew of other things to eat that are great tasting and better for us. As well as other uses for these amazing creatures who are far to often tossed to the side by pure ignorance!!!.. Tread lightly!!
