Why hats?
Ozone layer depletion decreases our atmosphere’s natural protection from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Understanding these risks and taking a few
sensible precautions will help you enjoy the sun while lowering your
chances of sun-related health problems.
Did You Know?
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States.Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun and from tanning beds is classified as a human carcinogen by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the World Health Organization.
- Skin cancer (melanoma and nonmelanoma that dosnt sound like fun!)
- Premature aging of the skin and other skin problems (ummmm no thanks!)
- Cataracts and other eye damage
- Immune system suppression
It's no secret that harmful rays rapidly increase the aging process of
your precious skin, resulting in visible sun-damage and in many cases
one form or another of skin cancer. When exposure to the midday sun is
unavoidable, wearing protective clothing such as a hat and using an
effective sunscreen are especially important. The FDA advises that "for
added protection from the sun wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your
head and face."
